The keto diet, while enormously effective in promoting fat loss and a healthier weight, is very restrictive.
The diet calls for less than 35 grams of carbs per day, with most of your calories coming from fat and protein. For some context, one small mocha latte from Starbucks has 32 grams of carbs.
When you’re on the keto diet, eating out at restaurants can seem impossible. Trying to sort through the menu to find something that doesn’t have bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, sugar, or any extra carbs is hard.
So to help, here’s a list of some keto friendly restaurants in the Fargo Moorhead area .
1. Luna Fargo
If you’re looking for something fresh, both in taste and in quality, Luna near downtown Fargo is a great choice. They have a lot of different diet options, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. They’re open all day, with a more breakfast café style in the morning and a nice dinner restaurant in the evening, complete with wine and a cheese plate.
If you’ve been eating keto for a while, you’ve probably discovered the wonders of cheese on the keto diet. Most cheese has no carbs, and it’s high in fat, making it a great keto snack. Well, Luna has a whole section of their website dedicated to cheese, so feast your eyes and your taste buds.
2. Prairie Roots Food Co-Op
It may sound strange to have a food co-op included on a list of keto-friendly restaurants, but Prairie Roots isn’t your average food co-op. Whereas most of them are closer to locally-sourced grocery stores, Prairie Roots is more like a farmer’s market/restaurant combo. They have an area where you can sit and eat the local food you just bought, and their selection is amazing.
On the keto side of things, they have a deli menu that changes on a regular basis, as well as a soup menu. They have fantastic grab-and-go options, and all their food is healthy and sustainable. They serve brunch on Sundays and have a salad bar for you to customize your meal.
BernBaum’s is a great restaurant right in the heart of downtown Fargo that has great food and some awesome keto options. The restaurant is an eclectic mix of cuisines that some have described as “a Nordic-Jewish deli.” If meat is the center point of your keto lifestyle, this restaurant will be your new favorite spot.
They have smoked brisket, sauerkraut, Wisconsin brick cheese, and German mustard all in the same dish. (It is a sandwich, so you’ll need to ask for it without the bread, but we think that sounds pretty amazing on its own.) They also specialize in small plates, relishes, and a variety of crazy flavor combos.
4. Power Plate Meals
If you’re looking for a lunch spot that has healthy, natural food with detailed nutrition information, Power Plate Meals is for you. Their mission is to provide ready-to-eat meals with “pronounceable nutrition labels.” Their food is all natural so you can know what it is you’re putting in your body.
Each of their menu items comes with details about calories, carbs, protein, and fat, so you can make sure to get the right balance for the keto diet. Their menu changes every two weeks, so you’ll never get bored eating the same meals. And they offer delivery services as well as their regular carry-out option!
